If you are interested in becoming a volunteer literacy tutor, take a look at the “How to Volunteer” section to find the schedule of Tutor Orientation and Tutor Training sessions. Then fill out a Tutor Application and send it in to us. We will be in touch with you!

MISSION STATEMENT 2008

Literacy Volunteers of Greater New Haven is a non-profit educational organization that trains and supports volunteer tutors who provide free literacy tutoring for adults who need to improve their reading, writing, and oral communication skills. Both Basic Literacy tutoring and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) is offered.

Our goal is to increase the English language and life skills of adult students and their families so they can participate more fully in the economic and educational life of the community.

Literacy Volunteers of Greater New Haven serves Ansonia, Bethany, Branford, Derby, East Haven, Hamden, Meriden, New Haven, North Haven, Orange, Seymour, Shelton, Wallingford, West Haven and Woodbridge.
